Ashley A. Fisler, a 36-year-old former teacher at Orchard Valley Middle School, has been arrested and is facing serious allegations of sexual assault against a student. The charges, announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, include eight counts, with six being first-degree sexual assault of a minor. This situation has sent shockwaves through the Washington Township community, raising concerns about student safety.
The investigation was triggered when the victim, now an adult, disclosed the unlawful relationship on January 23, 2026. According to reports, the alleged encounters occurred both in Fisler’s car and within her classroom during 2021. Investigators corroborated the victim’s account by uncovering text messages exchanged between Fisler and the victim.
In light of these allegations, Fisler has been suspended from her position and is no longer employed by the Washington Township School District since April 2023. The district’s superintendent, Eric M. Hibbs, emphasized the seriousness with which they regard the safety and well-being of students, stating, “The district is aware of the charges announced by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office regarding a former middle school teacher.”
Each first-degree charge against Fisler carries a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison, while the second-degree charges could add up to 10 years. The implications of these charges are profound, not only for Fisler but also for the community, which is grappling with the reality of such incidents occurring close to home.
Local residents have expressed their shock and concern. Parent Eric Sebastian remarked, “Scary, you know you hear about it in Florida or somewhere. This is too close to us, literally right across the street.” Another neighbor, Olivia Axelrod, found it hard to believe that such events could transpire unnoticed, saying, “Honestly it’s unbelievable to even think that could happen and also nobody saw it, you know. It’s horrible.”
Fisler is currently being held in the Salem County Jail, awaiting her first court hearing scheduled for March 27, 2026. The investigation into the allegations was conducted by the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Washington Township Police Department, highlighting the seriousness with which authorities are treating this case.
As the legal proceedings unfold, the community remains on edge, grappling with the implications of these charges and the safety of their children in educational environments. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any further developments in the case, but the stakes are undeniably high for all involved.
