Boston Band Mourns the Loss of Frontman Tommy DeCarlo
“It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dad, Tommy DeCarlo, on Monday, 9 March 2026,” announced DeCarlo’s family, confirming the news of his death at the age of 60.
DeCarlo, who had been the frontman of the Boston band since 2007, succumbed to brain cancer after being diagnosed in September 2025. He joined the band following the tragic death of original frontman Brad Delp, who died by suicide at the age of 55.
Born and raised in Utica, New York, DeCarlo was a lifelong fan of Boston before stepping into the role of lead singer. His contributions to the band included vocals on the 2013 album, Life, Love & Hope, which showcased his talent and passion for music.
Tom Scholz, the founder of Boston and the main songwriter, reflected on DeCarlo’s unique voice, stating, “I haven’t heard anyone else sing like that in 35 years.” Scholz also described DeCarlo as “a competitive athlete and yet a gentle soul who his son and many others remember as a sweet man who did not deserve to be cut down at such a young age.”
DeCarlo’s journey with Boston began in a time of mourning for the band, as they were still reeling from the loss of Delp. His ability to connect with fans and carry on the band’s legacy was evident during their last tour in 2017.
In addition to his work with Boston, DeCarlo formed the band Decarlo with his son in 2012, further showcasing his dedication to music and family.
Boston, founded in 1975, has sold over 50 million albums globally, solidifying their place in rock history. The band’s enduring popularity is a testament to their impactful music and the talent of its members.
As fans and fellow musicians remember Tommy DeCarlo, his legacy will continue to resonate through the music he helped create. Details remain unconfirmed regarding any future tributes or memorials planned in his honor.
DeCarlo’s passing marks a significant loss for the Boston band and the rock music community, as they reflect on the dreams and inspirations he brought to life through his artistry.
