Candice Bergen turns 80
“I’m just in total denial. I don’t even want to talk about it. Being 80 is just unfathomable to me,” said Candice Bergen, reflecting on her upcoming milestone birthday on May 9, 2024.
Bergen, who has enjoyed a prolific career in film and television, will reach this significant age while continuing to engage audiences with her work. Known for her role as a trailblazing woman in the entertainment industry, she has amassed nearly 70 film and television credits, including her recent guest appearance as Constance Bishop in the Apple TV series “Shrinking.”
In “Shrinking,” Bergen portrays a character described as a doting mother and a sassy mother-in-law, showcasing her versatility as an actress. Her performance has garnered praise from co-stars, including Christa Miller, who noted, “The writers would come on set to see us working together because it was so hysterical.”
Bergen’s personal life has also been marked by significant events. She was married twice, first to filmmaker Louis Malle, who passed away in 1995, and later to Marshall Rose, who died in 2025 from Parkinson’s disease. She has one daughter, Chloe Malle, who is 40 years old and currently the head of editorial content at Vogue.
“I think she’s wonderful with her kids, and she’s very lucky because she chose a great husband [Graham Albert], who is a fantastic father,” Bergen remarked about her daughter, highlighting her pride in Chloe’s family life.
As she approaches her 80th birthday, Bergen remains active, working out with a trainer five days a week. She is also a proud grandmother to two grandchildren, who affectionately call her “Toto.”
Throughout her career, Bergen has been recognized for her contributions to television, winning five Emmy Awards and becoming a beloved figure in the industry. Ted McGinley, a fellow actor, stated, “I consider Candice to be a TV legend. I mean, she is legendary. She has been for years a massive force in television, and she is so iconic.”
As Bergen prepares to celebrate this milestone, her legacy as a pioneering actress and a devoted family member continues to inspire many.
