What changes are coming to Fortnite?
Epic Games is raising the price of Fortnite’s in-game currency, V-Bucks, to help cover increasing operational costs. This change will take effect at the start of the next battle royale season on March 19, 2026.
As part of this adjustment, the $8.99 pack will now provide 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000, while the $22.99 pack will offer 2,400 V-Bucks instead of 2,800. Similarly, the $36.99 pack will now include 4,500 V-Bucks instead of 5,000, and the $89.99 pack will provide 12,500 V-Bucks instead of 13,500. Players subscribed to the monthly Fortnite Crew membership will also see a reduction, receiving 800 V-Bucks instead of 1,000.
What led to these changes?
The decision to increase prices comes as Epic Games acknowledges that “the cost of running Fortnite has gone up a lot.” This financial strain has prompted the company to adjust its pricing structure for in-game purchases.
In addition to the V-Bucks price increase, significant changes are also on the horizon for Fortnite’s Save the World mode. Starting April 16, 2026, Save the World will transition to a free-to-play model, allowing more players to join the game. This shift follows the initial launch of Save the World as a paid product before the rise of Fortnite Battle Royale.
What should players expect?
As part of the transition to free-to-play, sales of the current version of Save the World will end on March 11, 2026, at 8:00 PM ET. Current owners of the game will continue to receive their founder’s benefits, including V-Bucks and special bundles containing in-game items.
However, it is important to note that the original Nintendo Switch and mobile devices will not support Save the World due to technical limitations. According to Epic Games, “the building and AI functions need technical resources which those devices lack.” Players can still earn V-Bucks through Daily Quests, Mission Alerts, and Storm Shield Defense missions after the transition.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding any additional features or content that may accompany these changes, but the upcoming updates signal a significant shift in how players will engage with Fortnite.
