A 4-alarm fire erupted at a pallet yard in Riverside, California, just after 3 p.m. on March 16, 2026. The blaze began in a metal shop before rapidly spreading to pallets and then to a nearby field, ultimately burning several acres.
Firefighters responded promptly, but the challenging conditions, including prevailing winds and high heat, complicated their efforts. Riverside City Fire Department Capt. Paul Seawright remarked, “The conditions are very arduous for our firefighters; the prevailing winds, the high heat.” Fortunately, no injuries have been reported in connection with this incident.
In a related incident earlier that day, the historic Beadel House at Tall Timbers was destroyed by a fire caused by a lightning strike. Built in 1895, the Beadel House was unoccupied at the time of the fire. One firefighter sustained minor injuries while battling the flames at this historic site.
Bill Palmer, a representative involved with the Beadel House, expressed his sentiments regarding the loss, stating, “While this is a loss of some of our historic items and the Beadel family house, we will press forward and continue to further our mission of conservation and ecological health through the use of prescribed fire.”
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the cause of the Riverside fire, which is still under investigation. The community is urged to stay updated as more information becomes available.
