Kenneth Walker’s Transition to Kansas City
Kenneth Walker III, who spent the first four seasons of his career with the Seattle Seahawks after being drafted at No. 41 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, has officially signed a three-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. The deal is worth up to $45 million, with $28.7 million guaranteed.
Walker, who was named Super Bowl MVP for Super Bowl LX, had a standout performance during the 2025 season, recording 1,027 rushing yards and five touchdowns. His ability to make big plays was evident as he averaged 4.4 yards per carry and scored a total of 31 touchdowns throughout his career with the Seahawks.
In addition to his regular-season success, Walker also contributed significantly in the postseason, amassing 417 scrimmage yards and four touchdowns in three playoff games. His 161-yard performance in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots highlighted his capability to perform under pressure.
The Chiefs, who had a disappointing 6-11 season last year, ranked 25th in rushing yards, with Kareem Hunt leading the team with just 611 rushing yards. Walker’s arrival is seen as a crucial addition to a team that has struggled to establish a strong running game.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid commented on the team’s need for improvement, stating, “Somewhere, you’d like to have a few bigger plays in that area.” Walker is expected to provide the Chiefs with the big-play ability they have been missing.
Walker confirmed the news of his signing on social media, sharing a photoshopped image of himself in a Kansas City uniform. This move marks a significant transition for the reigning Super Bowl MVP as he joins another title-winning team.
As the Chiefs prepare for the upcoming season, one uncertainty remains: the status of quarterback Patrick Mahomes for the start of the season is still unclear. Details remain unconfirmed.
With Walker’s proven track record and the Chiefs’ need for a dynamic running back, this signing could reshape the team’s offensive strategy moving forward.
