Milo Manheim has officially been cast as Flynn Rider in Disney’s highly anticipated live-action remake of Tangled, a role that has generated significant excitement among fans. The film is set to begin filming in June 2026 and is expected to be released in 2027.
Joining Manheim in the cast is Teagan Croft, who will portray Rapunzel. The original animated version of Tangled, released in 2010, was a commercial success, grossing $592 million globally. This new adaptation aims to capture that same magic while introducing fresh talent to the beloved characters.
Manheim, who is 24 years old, is known for his role as Zed in Disney Channel’s Zombies franchise, which included four movies. His casting comes as a surprise, as he learned of his role just ten minutes before the official announcement was made. “I found out 10 minutes before the news was released that I’d be playing Flynn. So that day was, I woke up just like any other day, and by the end of the day it was beautiful. The world knew it was great,” Manheim shared.
The live-action Tangled will be directed by Michael Gracey, recognized for his work on The Greatest Showman. The screenplay is penned by Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, aiming to bring a new perspective to the classic tale. Additionally, Kathryn Hahn has been cast as Mother Gothel, a role that was initially considered for Scarlett Johansson.
Manheim’s mother, actress Camryn Manheim, expressed pride in her son’s achievement, stating, “Like father, like son. Handsome, charming, and kind—just like Flynn Rider.” This familial connection adds an interesting layer to the casting, as the young actor steps into a role that has captivated audiences for over a decade.
As part of his preparation for the role, Manheim is undergoing rigorous training, which includes gymnastics and horseback riding, essential skills for portraying the adventurous Flynn Rider. He remarked, “They’re looking for a giant stallion,” highlighting the physical demands of the character.
The live-action Tangled project faced challenges early on, particularly after the underperformance of Disney’s Snow White at the box office in early 2025. However, the studio has moved forward with its plans, and anticipation is building for what promises to be a visually stunning adaptation of the beloved story.
Details remain unconfirmed regarding the film’s plot specifics and additional casting announcements, but fans are eager to see how this new version of Tangled will unfold on the big screen.
