This year, the festivities were amplified by a remarkable event at Philadelphia International Airport, where a Guinness World Record was set for the “Longest Line of Cheesesteaks.” The line stretched an impressive 1,200 feet, utilizing almost a thousand pounds of ribeye steak and 225 pounds of cheese.
As travelers and locals alike flocked to the airport, Dana Krawchuk noted, “The airport is really the entry point for everybody coming into the city.” This sentiment highlights how the cheesesteak, a staple of Philadelphia cuisine, serves as a welcoming symbol for visitors.
In addition to the record-setting event, local eateries offered enticing promotions to celebrate the day. Pat’s King of Steaks delighted customers with a special offer of free fries with any cheesesteak purchased between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. Meanwhile, Geno’s Steaks attracted crowds with a buy-four-get-one-free deal, ensuring that no cheesesteak lover left empty-handed.
Other establishments joined in the celebration, with Capriotti’s Sandwich Shop offering a buy-one-get-one 50% off deal, and Hot Table featuring $5 small cheesesteak paninis. Philly’s Best took $2 off their Cooper Classic cheesesteak from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., while Texadelphia served buy-one-get-one-free cheesesteaks, and G’s Cheesesteaks handed out free sandwiches from 1 to 3 p.m.
Reflecting on the community spirit of the day, Empric added, “To do this in the airport and to donate so many of the cheesesteaks to TSA is really incredible.” This gesture not only highlights the generosity of local businesses but also reinforces the cheesesteak’s status as a beloved culinary icon.
