“We were owed a game like that, where we probably weren’t at our very best tonight but being able to get a win,” said Senators forward Drake Batherson after the Ottawa Senators triumphed over the San Jose Sharks on March 15, 2026, at the Canadian Tire Centre.
The Senators managed to secure a 2-0 victory, marking a significant moment in their season as they continue to push for a better standing in the Eastern Conference.
Linus Ullmark, in his third consecutive start, made 19 saves, demonstrating his reliability as a key player for Ottawa. Meanwhile, the Sharks’ Tyler Toffoli and Mario Ferraro each contributed a goal and an assist, but it was not enough to overcome the Senators.
Ferraro opened the scoring for San Jose at 4:05 of the first period, giving the Sharks an early lead. However, the Senators quickly responded, tying the game 1-1 at 7:33 with an own goal by the Sharks.
Laurent Brossoit, making his first NHL start since April 18, 2024, recorded 18 saves. Reflecting on the game, he stated, “At this point, it’s bittersweet,” acknowledging the mixed emotions of his performance.
Collin Graf of the Sharks noted, “We didn’t match the physicality well enough,” pointing to a key area where the Sharks fell short against the Senators.
With this victory, the Senators now sit 10th in the Eastern Conference, while the Sharks remain eighth in the Western Conference, just one point behind the Seattle Kraken for the second wild card spot.
Tim Stutzle continues to impress, totaling 69 points in 65 games this season, while Macklin Celebrini has amassed 94 points in 64 games, showcasing the talent present in both lineups.
The Sharks had entered the match on a two-game winning streak, but this loss complicates their playoff aspirations as they look to regain momentum in the coming games.
As the season progresses, both teams will be looking to build on their performances and secure crucial points in the standings.
