Tornado Warning Issued for Multiple Regions
A tornado warning is currently in effect for parts of Middle Georgia, the D.C. region, southeast Louisiana, and south Mississippi as severe weather conditions develop. The warning was issued on March 12, 2026, at 4:46 AM UTC.
A Tornado Watch is in effect for much of Middle Georgia until 8 AM, where damaging winds of 60–70 mph are possible. Additionally, isolated severe hail is expected, particularly with stronger discrete storms in the area.
In the D.C. region, the tornado watch covers Montgomery, Howard, Frederick, and Carroll counties in Maryland, as well as Loudoun County in Virginia. A rotating storm cell has been reported over Frederick County, Maryland, raising concerns about potential tornado activity.
Temperatures in the D.C. area reached record highs on March 11, 2026, with readings of 85°F at Reagan National Airport, 83°F at BWI Marshall Airport, and 85°F at Dulles International Airport. These unusually high temperatures contribute to the severe weather conditions.
Meanwhile, a Tornado Watch has also been issued for all of southeast Louisiana and south Mississippi, where scattered severe thunderstorms are expected. Rainfall in some Bayou spots could reach 1-2 inches.
Mike Stinneford, a meteorologist, noted, “Damaging winds, large hail and even an isolated tornado, all possible.” He emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “This is a very dangerous situation.”
As the storm system moves through, the National Weather Service warns that a few brief spin-up tornadoes within the line are possible. This adds to the urgency for residents in the affected areas to remain vigilant and prepared.
March is known for its unpredictable weather patterns, and this year is no exception, with fluctuating temperatures expected in the coming weeks. As the situation develops, officials continue to monitor the storm systems closely.
Details remain unconfirmed as the situation evolves, and residents are encouraged to stay updated through local weather alerts and emergency services.
