Gunfire at U.S. Consulate
“The shooting that took place at the U.S. consulate early this morning is an absolutely unacceptable act of violence and intimidation aimed at our American friends and neighbours,” stated Ontario Premier Doug Ford following the incident on March 10, 2026.

Toronto Mayor Olivia Chow echoed these sentiments, stating, “This cannot stand. Toronto’s Jewish community has the right to practice their faith and culture and to live their day-to-day lives without fear, intimidation or violence.” Her comments reflect the growing unease within the community amidst rising antisemitic incidents following international conflicts.
Toronto Police Deputy Chief Frank Barredo reassured the public about the security of the consulate, saying, “It is very secure. The glass and the walls are reinforced and so I don’t believe there was any penetration into the building.” This statement aims to alleviate concerns about the safety of diplomatic missions in the city.
