Chase Claypool is trying out for the Green Bay Packers during their rookie minicamp, marking his attempt to return to the NFL after two seasons marred by injuries and disappointing performances.
Claypool last played for the Miami Dolphins on January 7, 2024, where he recorded just one catch for three yards. His brief stint in Miami followed a tumultuous period that saw him released by the Buffalo Bills after suffering a toe injury during training camp.
Drafted in the second round by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2020, Claypool had a stellar rookie season—62 catches for 879 yards and nine touchdowns. Yet, his trajectory took a downward turn after being traded to the Chicago Bears in October 2023, where he managed only eight catches for 77 yards across 12 games.
Claypool announced his comeback intentions on July 3, 2025. Observers are curious about how he will perform at this minicamp—he’s one of eight players vying for a spot on the Packers roster.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur expressed optimism about Claypool’s potential. “He’s had some great film out there. He’s been productive and he looks like he’s in great shape. And he’s big. We’ll see how it goes,” LaFleur noted.
Despite his struggles, Claypool remains hopeful. He stated, “I deeply and truly believe that the pieces will align, and I will work my way into the position to show off what’s been suppressed these last two years.” His confidence hints at determination to reclaim his place in the league.
The road ahead is uncertain. Claypool’s past injuries raise questions about his durability moving forward. Nonetheless, this minicamp could serve as a pivotal moment in determining whether he can revive his career.
