Rhode Island Energy has announced a significant development as the Revolution Wind project has officially begun delivering power to New England’s electric grid as of March 16, 2026. This 704 MW offshore wind energy project is expected to play a crucial role in meeting the region’s energy demands.
The Revolution Wind project is designed to supply enough electricity to power over 350,000 homes and businesses, contributing to a more sustainable energy future. It is projected to save New England ratepayers as much as $500 million annually in wholesale energy costs, marking a substantial financial benefit for consumers.
In addition to its economic advantages, the project has also created significant employment opportunities. More than 2,000 workers have been supported through various phases of construction, operations, shipping, and manufacturing related to the Revolution Wind initiative. Notably, over 1,000 local union labor workers have logged more than 2 million hours on this project.
Revolution Wind is a joint venture between Global Infrastructure Partners’ Skyborn Renewables and Ørsted, reflecting a collaborative effort to enhance energy production in the region. Amanda Dasch, Chief Development Officer at Ørsted, stated, “Revolution Wind is adding affordable, reliable American-made energy to New England’s grid, helping to meet growing energy demand and lower consumer costs.”
The project is expected to generate energy year-round, with particularly strong output anticipated during the winter months, further ensuring a stable energy supply for the region.
Rhode Island Energy is also preparing for severe weather and potential power outages, emphasizing its commitment to reliability and customer service. The successful implementation of the Revolution Wind project aligns with broader efforts to transition to renewable energy sources and reduce reliance on fossil fuels.
As the Revolution Wind project continues to develop, it is poised to significantly impact the energy landscape in New England, promoting sustainability and economic growth.
